Kitchen Sink Smoothie

This smoothie is aptly named as it includes nearly everything but the kitchen sink itself. This smoothie has plenty of green vegetables, several servings of fruit, and several good-for-you seeds and nuts. It’s also incredibly easy to assemble: just chop everything into large pieces and throw it in the blender and you’ll have a frothy, healthy powerhouse of a way to start your morning. I use 1 frozen and 1 regular banana to help chill the smoothie and to make it creamy. Almonds add protein and the chia seeds are packed with essential nutrients, such as omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and fiber. Here’s to good health! Slainte! (Cheers in Irish)

Kitchen Sink Smoothie

Serves 2

Ingredients:

  • Scant cup blueberries
  • 6 strawberries, hulled and quartered
  • Small handful kale
  • Large handful spinach
  • 1 frozen and 1 regular banana
  • 1 Gala apple, cored and chopped
  • ½ cup almonds
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 2 teaspoons ground flaxseed
  • ½ cup almond milk
  • 4 ice cubes

Directions:

  1. In a Vitamix or high-powered blender, add all ingredients in the order listed. Blend for 2 minutes until the ingredients are liquified and the mixture is frothy. Pour into two glasses and serve.
    1. If the smoothie is too thick for your taste, you can add a bit more almond milk and blend for an additional 30 seconds.
